After 2 years into this veggie garden project, we decided we needed a greenhouse.  Now this can be a complicated subject and lots to consider – cost, benefits, cons, etc… but I will try to keep it simple for this post.  We wanted a dedicated space we could work on trays, mixing soil, keeping babies and toddlers safe until ready to go into the ground.  We didn’t want a cheap, pre-fabricated store bought 10×10 sort of thing.  Being a “researcher”, I watched tons of videos and what others were doing and came up with our own plan.  I knew our GH wasn’t going to allow us to grow throughout the winter (not going to heat ours) and it would accomplish many other points….so we went for it.

We found a bunch of old window sashes on FaceBook who had enough to do the whole thing, so we drove to Columbia and got them.  I used the same size on each wall so it would work out as even as possible.  We found another old glass door also on Facebook that is over the walk in door.  Gutters were installed to collect the rain water and pickle barrels in the back to collect and dispense the rain water.  Two grape vines were planted first thing (advice from a video) on the sunny side of the building which serves to help cool it down in the summer (leaves drop in winter so sun can come through) and also provides grapes to eat. Win-win.
