Children’s portraits can be both challenging to capture and rewarding if done in a creative way. My children’s sessions are very fun for the kids and journalistic in nature. I let them play and relax… and never use the “S” word (smile) and I try to get clients to learn not to say that word either. I will get the children smiling but it will be “real” – not because they were told to.
The natural, real-life images are also what I am after. I encourage parents to just say we are going to “play” at Paul’s or the park or beach… not going “to have your picture taken.” I do not want to be remembered as the school photographer. I am much different and want to be thought of differently by the children.
Contact the studio. Its always best to chat about what you are after…we can schedule an in-home consultation or here in the studio to sit down and brainstorm together so the actual session goes smoothly and I can create something more tailored to your ideas.
While most clients end up doing a Portrait Collection or album, there is no minimum…Collections start at $315 (which includes a wall portrait and smaller prints too) and a la carte prints start at $20… so affordable for any budget. Keep in mind all my photographs come from my professional lab that still produces wet-process silver halide true photographs…not inkjets as everyone else has gone to unfortunately.
I work hard for all sessions, no matter the size of the order (ask all of my clients). You can download the Quick Prices here.
The presentation appointment is usually scheduled about 2 weeks following your session. Both parents and any other family members (grandparents) who will wish to view and purchase images will need to be present at this appointment. This is the last day for the discount. You will first see a slideshow of the images set to music and projected in theatre fashion on an 8 foot screen. After the show, we can then go right into designing your order. If dad is not present and you want to wait on him to help, you will need to schedule another appointment.
One of the biggest things you as the client can do to help make these images “cohesive” is coordinate the clothes for the group. Limit it to 2 solid colors (white & khaki) , (blue jeans & white shirts)… earth tones are always good for location sessions. Stay away from patterns and dotted, busy colors that can be distracting. We want to make the family look very united and like they belong together.
To display your family images on your walls of your home shows just how important family is to you. When your friends and neighbors enter your home and see a nice family portrait over your mantle, they will know immediately your family means everything to you.
Your wall portrait can be framed to coordinate with your home decor and colors, style of the portrait and delivered ready to hang. In some cases, I hand deliver the finished portraits to clients homes.

Paul has taken all of our family photos and done each of my son’s six year old portraits as well as our daughter’s newborn pictures. He does amazing work and captures the best moments without much effort. He is very professional and is excellent at what he does. We will continue to use him as our photographer because of how pleased we have always been.
Great experience! Our newborn portraits turned out beautifully!!! Very professional and great quality. I have received so many compliments!
What a wonderful experience! Paul did a beautiful job capturing my twins on their first birthday. We will treasure these portraits for a lifetime! The hardest part was trying to decide which photos to order since we adored them all. Paul was willing to work with our schedule and even went out of his way to deliver items to my home understanding that life can get hectic with little ones at home. We look forward to scheduling another shoot with Paul in the near future!
Paul has been our family photographer for nearly a decade, and has perfectly captured moments that we will cherish for a lifetime. Paul truly is an artist.
Best skill for photography I have seen but what’s better than that is he will edit the picture to make you look like you perfected! And he is the only photographer that you know by the magic in the eyes. Highly recommend.
I first found Paul in 1999 when shopping for a wedding photographer. We have used him for all of our family pictures both on location at the beach and in the studio. He is always professional and captures the most beautiful shots no matter what the circumstances. Love him!
The photos are precious! We will treasure them the rest of our lives. Paul captured so many beautiful, real-life moments–even when I thought he surely must have missed all of them because my daughter was so energetic and full of movement that day! The photos capture so much love, joy, mischief, and everything in between. Thank you Paul for such a wonderful gift! We can’t wait for our next session.
